About
Who am I?
My name is Erin Dorney and I am the Outreach Librarian for the Millersville University Library in Pennsylvania.
I received my MLIS & CAS-DL from Syracuse University (2008) and a dual BA in Communication/Journalism & English from St. John Fisher College (2006). In 2009 I began my MA in English Creative Writing at West Chester University. For more details about my experience, education and professional development, please see my online CV.
About this blog
Although most of what I write about here at Library Scenester is related to my professional life and experiences, being a librarian is only part of who I am. I am also a designer, a film enthusiast, a music lover, a young writer and a lifelong learner. I am a woman, a daughter and sister, a reader and 24 years old. I am (slowly) learning how to mountain bike. All of these things contribute to my writing here. And let’s do this: If you find a typo, email me.
Speaking and collaboration
I enjoy connecting with other librarians and like-minded folk. If you are interested any of the topics below (or anything on my blog), feel free to contact me for brainstorming, collaborative presentations or publications, etc. Additionally, I would be happy to speak to libraries and librarians about the many topics I blog about (and even topics I don’t normally blog about – contact me with your ideas):
- new/young/millennial librarians
- multi-generational library workplaces
- blogging
- academic libraries
- sustainability
- graphic design
- marketing/outreach/public relations
- social networking

Blogs, as I’ve said elsewhere (as my Real Life persona) are exemplars of Sturgeon’s Law — “90% of everything is crap.” The trick is to look for the other 10%, the jewels, and encourage them to continue to shine. You can be one of them yourself, from the looks; keep it up.
Thank you, Harper! I’m trying! And thank you for your readership as well.
Hey Erin,
I really like your blog and your professional writing/opinions/offerings. Keep up the good work!
P.S. I hope the move went well!
Thanks Emily! I enjoy yours as well. The move went great thanks to help from my brothers but I am super jealous of your jacuzzi tub! We only have a stand up shower now…
